Removing the front fork dampener knobs...

1980 GS1100E - starting to rebuild the forks:

How do those round dampener adjustment knobs (#6 on the fiche) come off from the bottom of the front forks - the manual says something like, "pull off knobs..."

I gave one a half-hearted pull & it didn't seem to move, so I'm a bit leary about yanking on it...

The parts fiche isn't that clear (to me anyway) about any possible fasteners nolding it on. I do see a circlip, but I believe that on the inside, accessible after i remove said knob...

Anyone got experience with removing these knobs?

So, ... which one are you removing, the dampener knob or #6?

#6 in that drawing is the circlip at the top of the lower tube that holds the seal in place, the dampener knob appears to be #8.

Can't help you with how to remove it, I have never had to do one. Just wanted everyone else to be clear on which one you were working on.

Well, if you squint REAL hard, that #8 can look like a #6. Thanks my story...

No, you're correct, it's #8 on the fiche.

I'm not comfortable with just giving it a big ol' YANK, until someone here agrees that's how it's removed...
