intake boot rubber

    intake boot rubber

    What is with intake boot rubbers, are these on correct? They seem to have to much of a bend in them to compensate for the intake ports Or, am I installing them wrong?

    Their is a left & Right so you have them backwards

      I have them on proper sides, two with the 'R' on the right, two with the 'L' on the left.

        I thought the bend was mostly in the vertical plane, so the carbs will sit horizontal when attached to the engine. That photo seems to show the bend sideways.

          The intake ports have a bend in them and come out of the head at an angle, the bend in the boots are supposed to straighten this so the carbs line up. I have these on my 750 as well and the angles that meet up with the carbs isnt straight Am I doing something wrong here. They are installed like the manual says, with the 'made in japan' pointing towards the head. The carbs install 'okay' but it doesnt seem right.

            I rotate them until they line up. Usually the lettering is facing somewhat up.
            Do you have the right side in the head?

              Yes, right as in right if you were sitting on the bike, 2 left, 2 right.
              Turning them so the lettering is facing more up makes them look like the boots are facing down.

                I didn't mean left or right. Actually in the head itself backwards. Look at the inside of the boot. The mating points look either like the od of the carbs or the head.

                  The manual says that the 'made in japan' on the boot is supposed to go towards the head.

                    Take a straight edge and lay it across the face of the boots......rotate as needed until they are all even.

                      Yes, this. Facing down is correct I think (as mentioned before, the bend is in the vertical direction).

                          He has the bends in the correct direction. They are the same on my bike. Right points to right, and left points to left. I haven't tried to get my carbs on yet, so I can't help you there.

                            I'm with Chef on this one...

                            Keep the clamps loose, spray some silicon in the boot ID's, push the carbs on & rotate each boot until it "feels" like it's in the right position.

                            Also, double check that the boots aren't on backwards...

                            My 750LX was a giant PITA to put the carbs on/off, but that's the way I found that was easiest.
