Where did this screw come from

Just put it all back together and see where you have a bolt missing.........

I'm honestly really tempted to do it. Just pretend that this never happened and put the engine back together.

I still say it looks like an engine mount bolt. Either from the bottom or at the three bolt plates.

You know way more than I do but I don't think it's an engine mount bolt. It's so thin, it wouldn't be able to support the weight of the engine. And plus, all of the engine mounting hardware is still on the frame.

What would you guys do? Would you recommend taking apart the whole engine to find where this goes. I really don't want to do that though but I'm thinking it's the only way. Thanks for the help so far.

How about the ground to the battery box.

I just went and looked at mine and the battery box bolt has a 4 on it.

Is the washer a captive one or can you remove it from the bolt?

What is the exact size of the bolt across the thread?

Use a thread gauge and tell us exactly what thread it is? It looks too coures a thread for the normal 6mm thread (6 x 1mm pitch).

Use a vernier to take these measurement if you can.

It's a captive washer.

Using vernier calipers the measurements I got are:
Master Diameter: 5.842mm
Pitch: 1mm

I would tend to concur with the earlier comment that it looks like it could be a clutch pressure plate bolt. This bolt for the clutch has a captive washer that measures 20mm across it's flats, and the bolt is 16mm long and is 6mm x 1mm pitch.

I don't know how it got in your sump, but I would not worry about it. Put the motor back together and ride.

I found (The hard way) an extra cam sprocket bolt inside a motor. It maybe a little fat fingered assembly worker left a present on a monday morning.

All of the clutch bolts are in place. A while back though, the PPO changed all of the clutch bolts and he might have left one behind. That's the only thing that makes sense.

Steve, he answered in an earlier post that he had checked the clutch out. Everything there was OK.
