    stater solenoid switch

    Hello,
    Can someone please explain the function of the starter solenoid switch? Thanks,

    stater or starter? the starter solenoid switch does just what it says, when you hit the starter button it switches the power from the battery to the starter moter. not sure what you mean by a stater switch, unless you mean the regulator/rectifier!
    1978 GS1085.

      Also assuming you mean staRter solenoid switch, all it is is a heavy-duty, remote-control switch.

      The staRter requires a LOT of current to turn the engine over. Your little button on the handlebar can not handle that much current, so it handles the little bit of current necessary to turn on the solenoid.

      It can also be thought of as a heavy-duty relay. Not sure why the distinction between "relay" and "solenoid", but solenoids are usually heavier-duty than the average relay.

        It completes the circuit to the starter with an electric magnet that is activated by the starter button. It is alot like a relay.

            yes, short your battery cable to the starter side of the solenoid, that will prove the starter motor. if that works, trace back the wiring and find the fault from the solenoid
