Checking with the plastic tube is the more accurate method to use.79 GS1000S

Agreed - plastic tube method is exact

Any suggestions on a source for the plastic tube device would be appreciated. Correct me if I'm wrong, but using the tube device entails removing the drain plug, right?
Thanks,

Yes, this method involves removing the drain plug from the float bowl. Unfortunately, I'm unsure of where to get a tube that will work for this.Comment

get another float bowl drain plug & drill a hole through it. Then epoxy a short pc of rigid tube in the hole. Connect a length of clear plastic hose to the "nipple" you created & run it up against the side of the carb. As the bike is running, the fuel in the hose will fill to the level of fuel that's in the bowl.Comment
