    Castrol Tection oil

Has anyone used Castrol Tection oil for oil changes? Will it make my wet clutch slip?

It's on an 81 gs650gl, which really could use an oil change. I just got my new filter and o-ring in the mail and am waiting to do the change.

It's CJ-4 CI-4+ and CI-4 compliant And API SM. Anyone used it or know it's a bad idea?

In general, any oil should be alright. Just make sure it DOES NOT say energy conserving on it in the API label. Those have friction modifiers that can ruin a clutch pretty quickly.

Those two on the far left are what I'm talking about, don't buy anything with that in the bottom of the seal.

    Again, I'm speaking generally.

Also, expensive oil isn't necessarily better oil. These beasts will run quite happily with the cheap stuff from Wal-Mart. Many people like the Rotella, diesel variety (more detergents). Some of us run full super-premium-extra-great sythnetic. The most important part of oil maintainance is to change it regularly.

Thanks for the remarks. Yeah, I've already been around the block with synthetic or not and I decided not just for $. I'm going to run the Diesel though because it's an aircooled bike and my car has a turbo (90 Volvo 740T) Sounds good.

It DOES NOT say energy conserving. I made sure of that.

Castrol Tection is diesel oil so it's a good choice. My preference is for Shell Rotella diesel oil, and the newest formula is MA certified (good for wet clutches), although I wouldn't be afraid of using any of the diesel oil formulas. Only oils I'd avoid are the latest type auto oils since much of the zinc has been removed in order to extend catalyst life.
