Floating Rotors - advice

I bought some Katana Rotors to go on my 750....

When at a stop with the brakes on it felt like loose head bearings, but it wasn't.....

On further investigation is shows that the rotors braking surface is moving about 20 thou (0.5mm) Max, probably less in the rotation plane thus is you rock the bike with the brake on hard you can feel the movement....

Couple of questions:

1. Is this normal for Katana Rotors? (I'm assuming it's wear & is what EBC's "Square drive" is meant to prevent??)

2. Is this something that quickly gets worse or do I have many miles riding it before it becomes annoying / dangerous (currently can't feel it at all when riding)

3. Does anyone know if the PCD, diamter & offset for the GSXR is the same as the Katana? (Presumably they are AL spider as the Katana spider is steel).

By the way - do we have any experts here who can tell me the differences between a GSXR 1100 front end & a Katana front end (these are supposed to be GSXR 1100 & check out in Dia etc but the clipons look like the Katana ones & they have 4" travel where the GSXR1100 is supposed to be 5" I believe).

What year are the Katana Rotors? GSX750F ?

THESE ARE FROM A 98-02 SUZUKI KATANA. NOT BENT OR WARPED AT ALL. RIVETS ARE TIGHT. STEEL IS WITHIN SPEC. THESE ROTORS WILL FIT 89-02 KATANA 600 & 750, 99-02 SV650S, 94-97 RF600 AND 96-03 BANDIT 600. THEY ARE SHAPED DIFFERENT FROM BIKE TO BIKE BUT THE DIMENSIONS ARE THE SAME. THEY WILL MAKE GOOD UPGRADES FOR OLDER BIKES WITH OLD LOOKING ROTORS.

This is from the Ebay Ad that I bought them on from memory (or at least it's in the GSR thread I posted up about them before buying, the other set I have are the same but one side is slightly worse).

I put 50,000 miles on an '89 GSX750F. I have a faint memory if a little movement or noise when rocking the bike with the front brakes locked at a stop.



But, i am not for sure. I Bought it in 92 sold it in 2001.


That fork boot does not look like the GSX-kat. Looks like on the front there is a mounting plate cover or something? That's not from the GSX-kat that I have seen. Mine was the 750 version.

do you have a picture of the top tree clip-on?

The rotors look like post '98 kat, your forks look like gsxr legs to me. I've got pre '98 kat legs and rotors and they have no play at all at the rotor buttons.

Those plates at the front of the fork legs are where I removed the electronic antidive (I don't think it was working in any case.

Perhaps I'll hunt down a set of rotors from an 03 Bandit... or an SV650.

I don't think there's any immediate problem but one to keep an eye on as I'm guessing it will only get worse eventually.

This seem to be gsxr1100 fork, if you have not machined the spindle or make special bushing to fit that wheel i would say it came off a 1988.
For the rotor offset i know that gsxr + bandit are not the same.
I have run bandit discs on my gsxr with no problem other than putting washer under the caliper bolts.

If they are 88 then 87 1100 is also identical; both use 17mm axles. I have 87 forks with my 88 wheels after doing a close review of the parts list.

I think the Wheel has 88 or 89 on it from memory. It's a 17" not an 18".

Jim, any idea of the offset, dia & PCD of the GSXR rotors? They are 5 bolt.

I have a set of Gixxer rotors that were used from '88, '89 for 1100's, through '95 believe. Offset to the inside of the rotor is about 11/16", diameter 12.25", and center diameter about 2.5".

Thanks Billy. Also going to look into the more modern ones too I think... Seems like those ones are a bigger dia from memory.
