I have pods on my daily driver.

I run pods, bike runs great, carbs come off and on in minutes, also a dynojet stage 3 kit. I got a good used set of K&N's off ebay for about $50
You might want to look into whether they make a dj kit for your bike.
EDIT: just looked it up and they do make a kit for oyur bike.Last edited by Guest; 01-26-2010, 05:33 PM.Comment

The one thing I have noticed is that 1 and 4 run a little leaner than 2 and 3 (and had to adjust accordingly). I chalk it up to the fact they get a tad more fresh air.I?m firmly in the pod haters camp. The carbs are tuned to work with the stock airbox and exhaust so why mess around with Mr. Suzuki?s good work? Quality pods cost a lot of money ($70 - $150), and a jet kit is another $100. K&N?s allow more dirt to get though to the engine compared to the stock filter inside the airbox, and certain weather conditions, such as rain and side winds, can upset the mixture. If you are racing, building a heavily modified project bike, or tearing it apart several times per year (like Chef), then pods have some value. Otherwise I stick to stock.Comment

Wow, So much awesome info. I can whole heartily say I am glad I bought this GS and I became a member here. You guys ROCK!
Anyone ever used a pod "pre-filter", they make foam ones and like cloth ones?
And Chef, How do you know?? I am curious.
So does the Dyno Jet stage 3 address this 2 and 3 run leaner problem? Does 2 and 3 use different size jets and needle shims?Comment

APE pods are NOT K&N brand. Big Jay posted as much in a thread a while back. Dig though the archives if you don't believe me.Ed

Help as well
New to the forum and I myself have a 77 and 79 gs550. Trying to get the 79 up and running and need help to figure out what jets I need for a 4 into 1 exhaust and pod filters. And for the guy who might or might not want a stock box setup. Let me know if you decided yes I could hook you up. I don't want money but for shipping as long as you use it. I have nothing pretty but have the setup. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.Comment
