having trouble with what model i have.

this sounds like a silly question, but i have a real hard time figuiring out my vin#. i will send pics later to show what i am referring to, but here's vin# which is also my frame#. GS110x-702973. from what i understand there's a year somewhere down there where you have only 11 numbers. also from what i understand i should be looking for a number that starts w/ a J. and there's the 17 number i should be looking for, haven't found none of these. i got this number from the frame (which is also stamped on it) up top behind the headlight. any help would be greatly apprieciated. thanks.

You're looking at the engine number. The VIN is on the steering head, either stamped into it or on a sticker.

      The 17 digit vin's started in 1981. yours is a 1980 it won't have a 17 digit vin.

It's an L. Someone has messed with the seat, though.

                      Replace what, the seat?
Please dont.. Thats prolly one of the best looking L's I've seen yet.
Amazing how a seat can change the entire look of a bike.

Should be a 16V if it has a chain and 8V if it was a shafty IIRC.

                              Okay, the long version...

when I first started on this board, I told Bill there was no way his bike had a 16 valve engine (a rookie mistake) I kid Him from time to time about my ignorant comment.

and yes, IIRC He's down to a 12 valve 3 cylinder model.

so that would make him Chef1024.5 ????
