I'll bet he has a 79 gs1000 that's been bored to an 1100, or maybe a Yamaha XS 1100. Neither would work in the GS850. Just my opinion1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. ZRX 1100Comment

Hi,
I've been told the GS1000G motors will fit the GS850 frames, but you have to keep the driveline with the motor. I'm pretty sure the two bikes use the same frame.

Im sorry I was not sure what the biggest engine was that was made as a shafty in 79. My question is will the biggest 79 shafty fit in my 79 850 frame??Comment
