    Transmission gurus...please check my dogs!!

OK...the bike was popping out of 2nd under power...
I've got the trans out and the 2nd gear dogs are worn, but it doesn't seem like it is enough to cause the problem...

What do you think? The left hand gear with the arrow is the suspect...
The other gear is from a used trans I picked up off eBay...it's better, but not a lot better.

    Another pic

Right now I'm thinking of asking the guy who worked on my drag bike trans to re-cut the dogs for me...
It would be a lot cheaper than the $80 a new gear appears to cost.

I'd send it off to be undercut. A mild one for street. I don't think they look too good. Either one.
You can buy new gears still. Pricey though.

I know just enough about this subject to be dangerious but...how about having the ebay gear back cut? That original gear looks like scrap to me.

Send the trans to Fast By Gast. Just tell them it is a street bike & you just want it undercut to keep it in gear. If you are NOT going to take it to the dragstrip, tell them that. Ray.

Nice video and case in point how a simple job becomes a "project" due to unforeseen complications (such as how to hold that particular gear).

You are showing the dogs on 5th gear that engages the slots on 2nd gear. If you fix or replace 5th gear then you have to fix or replace the 2nd gear output(driven) gear also. It will have beat up slots to match those beat up dogs. Know what I mean? Dar

I was just looking at new shifting forks (three total) and that was a buck-fifty alone.
My transmission looks perfect but I had a little trouble speed shifting under extreme load. Can't visually see a problem but my guess would be the forks.
