    another dumb fuel question

I have heard that on our bikes if you use an inline filter they start starving after a long pull. Anybody seen this?

I think that as long as you use a gravity fed filter you shouldnt have any trouble. Someone else with more info might chime in.

Many times (too many, actually), a bike owner will simply go to Auto Zone and grab a fuel filter to throw on the bike. Most of the filters that are made for cars have a bit of restriction in the filter media because they are designed for vehicles with fuel pumps. Your only "pump" is gravity, so you need a filter that is more free-flowing than average. If you look for a filter that is designed for a lawn tractor, it will work better than most automotive filters.

Why do you think you need a filter in the first place?

There is supposed to be a filter around the intake of the petcock. That is a very fine mesh, not much is going to get past. At the inlet valve in each carb is supposed to be another filter, but I have seen many of them removed. Why do you need a third filter in the system?

I think that says it all sir. The gravity fed fuel system does not like restriction. A filter for a small engine (lawn mower, tiller, sno-blower) will work. There is a very fine screen inside your tank. pull the petcock and check it out.
