Not really typical, I used to get (in what I estimate to be US mpg) 45 on trips, 40 around town when my 78 GS1000 was standard, even when it was suffering low compression.

35 is not bad It depends on your riding style If you get very agressive it could go to 20-25 mpg

My 78 flavor of the same bike got about 20 mpg for the last 3 years. We are rebuilding it now so we have yet to see what it will do now.

Yikes!! 20 MPG! That is not good. At that rate I would have to fill up by the time I rode from my house to my cousin's in baltimore!

I still think there is something wrong with a bike or rider that doesnt get over 40 mpg. even on the 1100s.

When I was driving my little kia(std shift of course)) around PA, i still got 37mpg ((on regular gas))which is the same as i get here on local driving. On the road ((I-95)with high test at a constant 80 to 85mph, i always got 37+mpg.

I used to get close to 50mpg on my 1100e, that's with v&h 4-1 drop in k&n and jet kit.

if the motor is running good check for parasitic losses such as low tire pressure ,worn chain/gears or even sticky brake, while they may seem simple they really add up . i found out my old chain was costing me 7-8 mpg when i went to a new rk x ring

My 1150E averages 43 mpg @ 70 mph. I've been doing quite a bit of riding lately with a friend that has a 78 GS1000E and for the same speeds, he always beats my gas milage by 2-3 mpg. He seems to be averaging about 45-46 mpg @ 70 mph. (I also just did a tune up on his bike. :-) )

EVILHOBBIT has the 1100 I used to own, I wonder what milage he's getting with it now.

                          '79 GS1000E with pipe/pods/1085 kit. I get about 38 city, 42+ on weekend rides.
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!
