    Oil pan bolt wrench size

Please don't make fun of me. Ok, just a little bit. What the heck is the correct wrench size to remove the oil pan bolt from an '82 GS 650GL? The Clymers says 13/16--ya, maybe with the help of a hammer that's the right size.

    21mm? 22mm? 7/8?

A little help and some gentle ridicule would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rich

I think mines 18mm, but it may be different on your bike. I think they try to make it the same size as your spark plug wrench.

Thanks, but my bike must be different. It's not an 18mm . . . my sockets go up to 19mm and that won't even fit on. 13/16 is a no go and 7/8 is too big . . .

I have the same problem on my 450.

Maybe I'll bust out the caliper today and get the official word.

I think I use a 21mm on mine I'll have to check and get back to you when I have a chance at home. I think mine would have worked with the spark plug wrench but looking closely at it I can see the edges are messed up.

I think one of the previous owners really messed it up. The plug was pretty hard to remove on my first oil change and the threads feel a little spongy but so far I have been able to get it to seal up and stay in place by using a new crush washer every time and torquing it down.

21mm over here, 31 for the sprocket nut.

              I believe your need a 22 mm.

Digital caliper reads 21.33 mm on oil pan plug. I'll bet it's a bit inflated due to some mangled corners, so I vote for a 21 mm wrench.

Roger that. Thank you, gentlemen. Now I'll need to make only one more trip to the auto store . . . for now.

Same size as the spark plugs (21mm)

I've been using the spark plug socket for years (18) on my 5 GS's. No problem at all with fitting.
