When I apply my front brake, my brake light doesnt come on. IT does when I apply the rear. Is there a relay that's missing or are all 83 GS550s that way?

the switch is located under the brake lever. its not a very good design, I replaced mine with a hydraulic switch that replaces one of the banjo bolts on the front calipers. Dennis kirk has them or you can find them on Ebay for around $15 plus shipping. it took me about 30 minutes to replace mine. -
It's a bad design, but once you get it set right you don't have to touch it, at least not for a while.Comment

I found that once you clean the contacts, and get everthing working again, install a small spring, one from a clicking style pen(you will have to cut it to length), into the switch to push against the sliding part of the switch so it will always return. I found it tricky to get the switch to work as sensitive as I wanted with out that spring installed.Comment
