what causes it lean or rich? my #1 cylinder pipe has turned blue.

I hope someone will explain this. I know too lean will turn pipes blue. I also know that if you forget and run for a while with the choke on, this wii also turn the pipes blue, but this is too rich. I've wondered about this for years.Comment

Because the mixture doesn't quit burning in the cylinder, it carries on into the exhaust system and raises the heat level, turning the pipes blue. This should only happen in extreme rich cases though.
