I've got a 1981 GS1000GL speedometer that doesn't work. Can It be change out with a speedometer that came off an 850? Does the speedometer have to come off of a bike of the same year? Or do I need one that comes specifically off an 81 GS1000GL? please help.

you can use a speedo from a 850 if it is a 850L the speedo needs to come from a bike that has the same size wheel as your bike or the calibration will be wrong. -
How much of a difference in diameter is the 18" front end compared to the 19? My 1100 has the 19 and it indicates a good 30% faster than I'm going.

I thought it was the drive gear on the wheel NOT the speedo that affected the calabration. You have a pretty wide selection for a speedo from a 550 to a 1100Comment
