Wrong airbox, and does it really matter??

Ive got a 79 GS1000L that came with an airbox (not installed on the bike)
in a pile of stuff.....the repair book shows a single air cleaner element , cylindrical....one i have is an oval type, is this a big deal for air flow for the 1000 or no?

I'd guess that it doesn't matter a whole lot, try it and find out. Just put it on and read your plugs afterwards to get the answer.

My guess is that it is correct, the book shows an E model and you have an L

Thanks Lynn, E model on the cover means E model for everything in there?

I don't know which book you have. The air filter you describe is that which is found on an L model, so you're probably OK.
