    36 mm VS 33 mm

It's the measurement taken across the bore of the carb at the engine side. You'll need to remove the carbs to measure it, I don't think you can tell by looking at the outside.

The 36mm CV type carb has a "kind of" square top like this:

Most all of the CV type carbs have this square top.

The 33mm smoothbore (Mikuni) has a narrow rectangular cap on top of the carb. I tried to find some photos of them on the internet but failed.

      I hope this helped.

That is one of the flat slide smoothbores. I'm not sure if they make or ever made a 33mm flatslide. The flatslides are suppose to be an improvement over the round slide carbs.

I believe that carb is an HSR, for Harleys, and other single carb bikes. The smallest RS carbs are 34mm, while I believe the smoothbores come in 29 and 33
