    Why wont you go faster?

I got my new bike started and running fairly reliably. But I take it out and it won?t get going very fast. It revs just fine in neutral but when in gear I don?t think its even reving to 3,000. (I cant tell as I haven?t got the speedo to work yet.) But does any one have any idea why it wont rev up while in gear? As much a my woman would approve of it not going over 25 I find it a bit annoying.

First DO you have the airbox installed??? They can be very tempermental without it

i am missing the cover to the air box

but i have the feeling that it ia a tranny issue cuz in revs fine when not in gear. It seems to me that the lever on the tranny that engages the clutch isnt kicking out all the way

IT IS A CARB PROBLEM If the clutch was not engaging the engine would rev UP, IF the trans was broken the bike would not move.
Make sure ALL of the covers are installed and sealed, and that the carbs are clean

Well as I am missing a cover to the air box what would be a good thing to use in place of that, and I also had to replace the tubing between the air box and the carbs with some rubber hose reducer couplings I found at home depot.

I just rebuilt the carbs and they are spotless, so it has to be a tuning thing I suppose. If someone could direct me to a picture of the side cover on the airbox, that would be very helpful in producing a replica.

Also so some guidance on how to synchronize carbs would be awesome

here's a picture of you air cleaner

Cover the opening from the missing cover with duct tape and try it MAKE sure there are no air leaks on the couplings you made Your best bet would be to keep an eye out on ebay for an air filter assembly The BS type carbs are VERY sensitive to any air leaks. It causes the bike to run very lean

The answer - It's TOO LEAN!!!!

Yes it is a carb problem, as in

Put the airbox cover back on or duct tape it SEALED - no leaks.

Why? The bike WILL rev at idle because you never really get on the main jets AND never really pull much air in. I would bet if you whacked the throttle full open while idling - the bike would bog. Don't hold it though-you'll over rev.

So why when you ride won't it rev? Because the bike, when in gear and riding, allows you to open the carb butterflys full open, and then the bike pulls in too much air in the airbox cover, and the mixture goes lean, and the bike stops accelerating.

Fix the cover - and your IN. Heh heh.
