    changing RAKE for Drag/Street

    hi everyone,
    I have a 1982 GS1100GL that I basically got for free (almost Complete) as a parts bike when I bought my 81 GS1000GL...

    Now, what I want to do is set it up for just some light cruising around the town and taking it to the track to have a little friday night fun with her....

    I want to get it as low as possible ( 4" from the bottom frame tube to the ground) and I want to use the Vance & Hines "Pro Pipe".

    That being said I realize I am going to have to rake the front end but what rake is reccommended to be both safe on the track and on the street while just crusing on it ??

    ANy Help would be appreciated
    I have the access to any/all types of welding Equipment to do it but I just neeed a rake # ...

    P.S. I was hoping to use the stock front end on the bike..... should I or should I find another front end....or....use a damper too..

      before you do any thing you need to know what class your going to want to run in. this will decide for you what mods you can do in a given class, I would forget what you are considering for street use, i.e vance and hines full race pipe witch I believe you have to add another 4-6 degrees to the stock rake, you would be better served with a longer swing arm and mild mods ,cause to be serious in the upper classes you need big bucks and lots of time and knowledge

          With the pro pipe you will not be able to turn right Very limited clearanceit is not a street pieceYou can also drop the fork tube in the tripple tree to lower it

              Hi....thanks for the responses ....

              I am planning on running just ET type classes .....

              But I really like the lowered look which is why I asked about the rake change....
              I would Love to stretch the rear but....a 1982 GS1100GL is a shafty ..... Hey.... maybe I can get VIAGRA on board as a sponser to help me stretch the shaft !!!!...LOL

              but seriously..... I want to lower the bike as much as possible ( just mainly for cosmetic reasons )....
              I am aware of the right turn situation with a V & H Pro Pipe but I have have heard of people that use them on the street that just take it easy on right hand turns .....

                  If you lower the back to much you will end up with to much angle on the shaft joints, not a good thing, with out being able to change your final drive ratio your not going to have much of a chance against the chain guys

                      if I am consistant I should do OK...... ( ET....???? )

                      my Drive Shaft is pretty much straight out of the back of the case with hardly any bend in it with the smaller shocks on it... ( I will probably be changing those to struts)..... I will just get her as low as I can wityh all stock parts...and just have some fun...... if I like it I'll think about moving up..... thanks for the advice everyone !!!!
