I checked the compression cold before I put the
pipes and carbs on (I know you are supposed to check it hot
but I just wanted to get an idea before I put it all back together).
Anyway, I got 135,125,118 and 135 psi.
On 1 and 4 I got 135psi on 3 turns of the engine and it took
5 turns to get the 125 and 118psi on 2 and 3 cylinders.
I put about half a cap full of oil in the 2 &3 and rechecked
and got 155psi after 3 turns of the engine.
My ring gaps are within range, could I be getting low readings
on these cylinder just because I have a fresh hone and my rings haven't
seated yet?
Also I remembered after I put oil in them, that most people recommend
dry cylinders for break -in. Won't most of the excess oil burn off
when I fire it up? Or should I pull the head and wipe down the cylinders
to try to get it dry as possible? (I'd really rather not do this unless
it's really necessary).
Thanks in advance
