The descrition says 16 v but the picture shows an 8 v engine? The bike is a shaft drive, but it looks more 79 -80 than 83? But I am no expert. Just curious.

If it's a genuine GS1100G as opposed to a bored out GS1000, production years were '82, '83 and '84. The shaft drive GS1100G is an 8 valve motor as the picture shows, but the seller reckons it's a 16 valve. Perhaps he's a little confused?
