    MY NEW 82GS1100E NEEDS MODS..WHAT TO DO...

    I just picked up a 82 GS1100E in very good condition for a grand!

    I need to know what simple performance mod's i can do! I have a friend that said he can get it jetted and tuned for $150 and i found some individual air filters im gonna pick up for $15 a piece that go on those lil mo-ped motors. K&N filter element at that!

    Anyway i'm not sure what look i want...i was looking at drag handle bars. or switching to a GSXR fork with "clipons" i believe they are called!?!?! I want a "Caferacer" look i think...i'm not sure i'm new to bike lingo...sorry!!

    Anyway any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! This is my first bike and ya it's a lot of bike for my first one but i couldn't resist for the price and when i test rode it, it was suprisingly easy to drive! Handled and turned very well.

      I personally find that bike gorgeous as it is! I do have a lower bar though. Other mods I did to improve my 83 1100E were pipe and jets, pod filters, s/s brake lines, Sargent seat cover, 530 chain conversion, Progressive fork springs, and oil cooler.

          Watch the crankshaft they are notorius for twisting, I found out !! Put in a Falicon Welded one, also the clutch basket is weak......just my 2 cents.......

              Be extremely careful with this bike. It's true that today's bikes are faster but if twenty years ago you had asked if the 1100e was a good first bike the answer most likely would have been something like "What? Are you nuts??". Today the 1100e's haven't gotten much slower or lighter and beginning riders aren't changed much from the way they were twenty years ago.

              Don't get cocky and treat the throttle with an extra gentle hand. Be extra careful in turns. Once you get used to them these bikes handle fairly well but until then their weight makes them somewhat unforgiving.

                  Here's my 2 cents.

                  As someone who has roadraced both motorcycles and cars the best piece of advice I can give you is to make it HANDLE before you make it go faster! Tires,shocks,fork springs and a fork brace make these bikes MUCH more nimble, which is a big performance and safety plus on a bike this big.

                  Keep in mind that this bike is 23 years old, unless you are willing to spend ALOT of money even a midsize modern crotch rocket is faster. As far as appearance mods just look around this site, it's endless what you can do if you're willing to to put the effort in. Enjoy the bike for what it is, a unique CLASSIC, everyone and their dog has a crotch rocket nowadays.

                      what kinda GSXR fork would bolt right up to my 82 gs1100e?? I dont want it to be a different rake really but if it is a minor change and dual front disc's would be nice but not neccessary...i want clip ons too i think that would look awesome!! Thanks Again!!!

                          Hands down the best mod you can make is a proper tune up.
                          Get that thing setup spot on and you will find that it wakes up
                          in ways you didn't know it could.
