I'm looking to get a set of sprockets and chain for my 1979 gs 750. What sizes do i need for a chain and for the sprockets. I would like to get a lil more top end out of my bike. Good place to buy also, dont have a lot too spend. Thanks

Not sure if you have an E or an L. Here are specs for both. Ebay is the best place to look. Just do a search for chain and sprocket sets.

i think it is an L. Also to get more top end i would go smaller on the back sprocket right? Also does any front sprocket work or does it specifically have to be for my bike. same with the back one also. Thankls billy you alway come through.

Just about any Kawasaki or Suzuki streetbike front will work except some of the newer Kaws. Have a look at the JT sprocket website and you can see the specs for the sprockets they offer. Don't go too far on the sprockets or the engine will have a hard time pulling the gearing. One tooth more up front would probably be the best way to go. A little bigger sprocket up front gives the chain an easier path around the sprocket.

You should go ahead and do a 530 conversion while you're at it. 530 chain is plenty strong and lighter. Less hp loss to the rear wheel. Since you're doing sprockets and chain it's the perfect time to switch.

Your stock gear ratios are roughly 3.5:1. The 530 sprockets will have a smaller diameter due to the smaller link size. In this case I'd go with a 17 on the front. That's going to mean about a 59 or 60 on the rear to keep the stock ratios with a 17 front. I wouldn't go wtih anything smaler than a 16 to give the chain an easier path around the front sprocket. With a 16 front and a 56 tooth rear you would be close to stock. This would be a good case for changing the rear count so you don't need such a big rear. If you go with a 17/54 or 55 combo or 16/50 or 51 that will drop your cruising rpm and if the motor will still pull close to redline in 5th you should gain a little top speed. You'll have to find a chart so you make sure you get the right length chain.
