    82 1100e build advice

if I wanted to rebuild my 1982 1100E and upgrade 20-30 horsepower, which cams and compression ratio should I go with ? the gs world is new to me, I have been on the schnitz racing website looking at web camshafts, so that's all I'm familiar with. thanks for any info

To add that much HP, extensive modding will be needed. Welded crank, high flow head, big carbs, big bore pistons, high lift cams and matching springs/retainers, etc. Lots of $$.

Projects like that have been going on here for a long time. Sit back and search out some old build threads.

Unfortunately some of the nicest Bike/Build threads as well as the builders are no longer with us. Joe Whelen was one of the masters....

Thats an understatement ! Don't try this on a budget. You'll be disappointed. Plan on putting out 5-10 x what the bike is worth......

thanks guys , after reading hundreds or thousands of post I found this one . posted below. In my opinion , great numbers , now I wonder what kind of power it could make without the street porting ? and who could do the porting if need be ?

the last 1166 I did had 10 to 1 Wisecos, with .348 Web cams, street ported head with stock valves, 36 Mikuni RSs & a V&H pipe. It made 140 at the rear wheel. If has run 9.29 @ 147 with a slick & wheelie bars.

Don't forget the welded crank. Some '82's have them already, but there is no way to know without an inspection, and don't even think of running big HP without the welding.

I suspect you will get a good gain with the parts you listed, even without the porting. How much? I don't know. As I understand it, though, an 1150 head will flow better than a 1100 head, so it you come across one of those, it might be worth the spend.

BTW, Ray, who made the post above, was banned here by our admin Frank. Apparently, repeat cases of not delivering on paid for parts. I have no specific knowledge, beyond reading posts here and what Frank did, and he's not one to act in knee-jerk fashion.

Also, 'Rapid' Ray does most (if not all) his own work. So the $ is different for him.

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

With it being 40+ years old and you looking for higher performance, maybe consider something made in the last 20 years. There would be a lot of advantages. Economics, reliability, drivability, parts availability to name a few.
