opinion on iridium plugs

Bosch +4 plugs do work good, just look at Nascar the winning teams run them!
moving the ground electrod to the side exposes the kernal (plasma arc) to the combustion chamber and alows it to ignite the fuel mixture faster and better.

Iridium plugs work wonders in high horsepower blower,turbo,NO2 applications. Everyday stuff will not see any real benefits....

I witnessed a dyno session on a blown 347 stroker motor....picked up 30 hp. It was already making 535hp or so\\/

Clean your glasses, "30 hp" was actually "3". I can believe 3, NOT 30 from a sparkplug.

Well, actually "maybe", I remember picking up an extra 27 hp from changing the seat foam on my GS1100

You can grab another 30 by painting the engine black.

Closed mindedness with get you no where in racing:-D I will attempt to explain why you can gain that much.Blowers,turbos,N20 has a tendency to blow out the spark at high levels of boost or shot of the giggle gas at high rpms. Iridium is great for igniting even in these conditions. Hence the 30hp gain. I have witnessed many dyno sessions I assure you this was not a fluke. As stated on an average ride or small boost apps you will likely not see any gain.The potential was already there it was just not utilized as the standard spark plug was a weak link.

Having run iridiums on my 850, I have some testimony.


Theres not really any performance change. However, the last set I had were fine after 20000km. I dont know why I changed them. I just got the br8es now, cuz theyre cheap. still fine after 10000.

I should add there is a down side to iridium plugs used in racing applications. The small tip is proned to getting very hot(no heat dissipation) and causing pre-igintion(tip burning away as a result think plasma cutter ). While copper plugs have a much larger electrode and not prone to this. Racers change,check thier plugs more than they change thier underwear so not big problem.:-D

OK, if you want to get serious and race technical, the focus on this thread was bling sparkplug performance on your average, well used STREET engine. Far too many gullible individuals try to emmulate the succeses of race only engines to their own street engines as far as "performance". I can tell you working in the powersports industry for about 10 years, its FAR easier for a novice performance enthuisist to LOOSE 5 hp, than it is for that individual to gain 5 hp by screwing around with their engine with performance gimmicks. I am sure you know the old saying "a combustion engine is simply an air pump" "The more air in, more air needs to be let out". Good performance gains will never be had (on a street engine) by just changing a sparkplug....

Hi folks, Been using the NGK Iridiums for the last 3k miles. Don't know if they increase power or if they are part of the reason my bike is running very well or not. Mine cost around $2.75 each at Advance Auto Parts. I don't have any complaints about them. Ray

I have 20 years and 240K miles on five GS shaft bikes, four 850's and now an 1100. All on plain NGK B8ES plugs, the recommended item, changed just once a year.

If your basically stock GS street bike won't run perfectly on these, your problem lies somewhere else. Anything else is a total waste of money.

There is a new spark plug out there called "firestorm" by a guy named Krupa. He makes some impressive claims . I tried to duplicate his idea albeit crudely. I got some startling results. I think he has something. Now for the disclaimer; He was the sales part of "splitfire plugs" so take what he says with this in mind.
