Need to change my mufflers (82 GS450)

    Hi all,
It's time for me to bite the bullet and replace the swiss cheese exhaust system. I am having some problems (throttle sticking at 4000 rpms) and dealing with this obvious issue will put me in a better position to begin the troubleshooting process.
I have seen the 2 into one systems, but don't really like the lack of symmetry and have read some nasty reviews of the MAC stuff.
Also, One thing I don't like about my current mufflers is that the megaphones are in the way to remove the back wheel.
So my questions are as follows:

Do any of you have suggestions about what I can do?

Should I cut the pipes (they are in pretty good, but not mint condition) and just look for some new mufflers that are a little shorter or not as megaphoney?

How about adjusting the angle of the pipes so that I can slide the rear axle out under or over the muffler?

Do you have a nice set of sweet old pipes for sale? I have been watching ebay for some time and have yet to find a stock replacement.

    Thanks in advance,
    James

I've read on the forum about more than one person welding on cutting off the rotted mufflers and welding on something else - like Harley mufflers. I have no other information other than to say it couldn't be all that hard.

just get slip-on aftermarket mufflers the right size and cut the old ones off.
