Brand new Ohlins SU143 shocks for GS1000's.

I'm hoping I can get more, but I'm not holding my breath. Somebody here apparently called the sales staff and mentioned the "group buy" and they of course didn't know about it - until now. So, that is the end of that.

But, do you mind if I ask why you don't want the Works shocks? Is there another brand that would interest you?

Well, I realize the Works pieces would be an improvement over the progressives I have now, but a good friend in NC (business is called Cogent Dynamics) has his own suspension business; He is an ohlins & penske dealer, but he can fab a custom set for less than what I could get a set of Ohlins SU143's-145's for (at ohlins retail price, not the price you were getting them for), AND they have all 4 adjustments (preload, compression damping, rebound and ride height, AND fully rebuildable with a warranty)...and, I'd be giving business to a good fella who I trust implicitly.

Any new info on this stuff? I'd be in for a set for the 1000. Would be interested in a set of piggybacks depending on what the price difference is between that and the non-piggybacks.

All ya gotta do is ask! Worst he can say is 'no', I suppose. You can always go to his site and contact him...give him all the specific details about the shock (Bike model and year, bike weight, rider weight, shock height, how it mounts--eye to eye, eye to clevis--, etc.) The will run about 400.00 per shock...pricey like the Ohlins, but Rick is an awesome guy, and I am always willing to drop a few more bones on a product that comes with tech support/customer service after the fact. Rick is a small operation, but does fantastic work, and is just a great guy. REALLY knows his stuff when it comes to suspension.

i don't want to derail the works shocks conversation but av8r made an interesting suggestion on an earlier thread. i'm sure i'm not the only one who would love a set of ohlins or works but still can't justify spending $400. there are other options out there for the financially challenged among us.

i've been looking for some decent shocks and i figure for $200 i should be able to find something better than progressive's low-end. i've even scoured for some vipexes despite their lukewarm reviews because at least they look nice. for that kind of money we should expect something that performs as well.

would anyone be interested in a group buy for a hagon www.davequinnmotorcycles.com (us distributor) or ikon www.ikonsuspensionusa.com shocks? maybe yss? www.yssusa.com i would love to hear it if anyone has some ideas of other manufacturers with nice products for the budget concsious.

The Ikon's are the old Koni motorcycle design. Adjustable damping which is nice. $330 is not cheap but it could be worse.

I got quoted about $350 to do an Ikon shock with chrome cover and spring (like the OEM 81 GS750E). The Ohlins deal came up and I did that instead for the 83 GS1100ED and a used ebay Hagon for the 81 GS750EX.

I'd be in if you could get a good deal.

I saw some cheap no-name remote res shocks on ebay for like 150 bucks, listed for a Vmax, but had clevis' included. They might be an option.

I'd love to score a set of these for my 1K but I just don't have that kinda grease for a set of shocks.

Been watching ebay forever for something better than stock, to no avail.

One of our Hong Kong members warned us re. those cheap remote res. Chinese shocks, when they first appeared, a couple years ago and flooded the Chinese market.....apparently, they are of poor design and quality, though they have duplicated the look of the expensive items. I do not know if the YSS shocks also fall into that category, but after reading the mixed reviews of the slick-looking Chinese Vipex, some homework is probably in order, before proceeding with a group-buy on any of the lesser known brands. Addy Leung mentioned the fact that the same basic shock was essentially listed for all displacements, possible due to the length adjustability offered by the threaded clevis sections....while they worked without problems on the small Chinese bikes, they have been known to fail on the larger bikes, with disastrous results.

So what ever happened with the Vipex guy? He at least seemed to be trying to put together a nice product. I think the Honda guys were happy?

I will need a set of something for my project before spring. I was lucky and found some NOS shocks for the Skunk which are good enough for that bike, but I want some performance shocks for the Beast. If longaviator or someone can come up with something, I'm in for at least one set, maybe two. Too bad someone blew it with the Ohlin deal.

I think YSS shocks are Australian, dont know where they are made though. I have heard that they not too bad.
