    Oil cooler weirdness

One of the things that came with my GS1000e when I bought it was a Derale cooler in the box. It's contemporary with the bike - early '80s at the newest. Anyway, it doesn't have the pressure sender adapter for the back of the motor. Instead it has a drill template and instructions for drilling and tapping the adapter.

Is this a valid way to do the plumbing or am I wasting my time with this cooler that would be better passed on?

Contact terry on here, he makes some nice billet adapter plates at a very good price.

How about a pic of your derale kit mate, I'm not sure if I've seen one? If you need an adapter, let me know, I just made a couple, and I'm just waiting on the aluminum shop to re-open after Christmas so I can finish them. Cheers, Terry.

I'd like to see that template, too! Is it a template for tapping the oil filter cover?

I decided to install it as-is, since I had it already.

Here it is in the box:

Here's the drill guide it came with being used:

Here it is tapped and adapted:

Here's the return fitting (which contains a restrictor and a brass filter:

Not as trick as your adapter but it came with the cooler.

It was in a pile of stuff that the original owner of my bike had. It's from the 80s - I paid him $60 for the cooler and a K&N filter and I thought it was well worth it.

The kit did not have the drill bits or taps - I had that stuff on hand. It came with the fittings though. I'd just go with Terry's kit if I were starting from scratch.
