    1984-86 GS1150 Oil Cooler

NOTE: I assumed your GS1100L was 16V rather than 8V.
Sorry my post applies to the 16V only.

You can either buy one used GS1150 cooler or try and mimic the same with after market. Check the microfiche for the cooler parts and mounting (at one of the on line OEM retailers such as flatoutcyle.com).

I had one already on my bike but purchased new oil lines from http://www.paragonperformance.com/ Give them a call once you get your cooler. They are very helpful if you need lines.

The cooler mounts under the triple clamp above the exhaust and the lines drop down to either side of the oil filter cover. There are two banjo bolts. Also you need to force the oil up into the cooler by
a.) plug the right side gallery
    or

b.) get a GS1150 cover which does the same. See Kat man's website for a description
When installing an oil cooler to your 1000 or 1100 kat you need to know a couple things. One, you need to get an 1150 oil filter cover. It has a block in it that sends the oil to the galleries beside the filter cover and up to the cooler. The two galleries on either side of the filter cap have a bolt size of 14mm x 1.5 pitch. That is the size of fittings you will need. DANGER... IF you ever remove the cooler you have to replace the stock cover or you will DESTROY THE MOTOR.I have the adapters to AN-6 or -8 for 20.00/pair. For you 750 kats you will need to buy an adapted cover. You can run this setup with an 1100 stock cover but not much oil gets to the cooler so its more show than go.
Note the GS1100 16V solutions are different to the GS1000 8V solutions. The primary cooler to engine I/F is provided for you; you don't need the $100 special adapter plate under the carbs.

There are pics of my filter here on the site.

This apparently came off of a GS1100 but it is not stock, is missing the oil lines and all fittings as well as the mounting bracket.

ok i havent looked yet. but your saying on my 82 1100 8v engine there will be two spots where i can hooked banjo fittings for oil to go in and out, that currently have bolts in there? also, your saying i need a gs1150 oil cover to force oil through the cooler. well my filter cover is circle and has three holes for studs. those 1150's have a different shape and number of studs in that picture from the website. thanks.

Oil cooler plumbing is different between 16v engines and 8V. 8V requires picking up oil from the oil pressure sensor plate, back under the carbs. 16V has banjo fittings down on the engine, or sump cover, by the oil filter.

For your bike you need the adaptor plate. A member named Terry here sells them for $105. I made my own. Check a few threads down the list here for details.

For a cooler there are several options. Earl's sells very nice coolers if you want new, or even JC Whitney. Ebay is full of used stuff if you want to save money. Lots of options.

For more info do a search of the archives. I did that when working on my adaptor plate and found tons of different threads.

        Good luck.
