The gs1000 and gs1100 have the same part number for the cam chain tensioner. I will be putting that ape tensioner on my 1000 motor. I'm also going to use the ape tensioner guide.

Looks awesome Bruce. Can't wait to see the chrome hardware that you showed me. Will look awesome against that black engine!

Suzuki fixed this by reducing the inflow diameter through the release rack. I did this mod to my engine, plus drilled some extra holes just inside the splined ring of the pressure plate. You may want to do this to your pressure plate if drag was an issue.
Nice looking project. Keep us drooling.
I wasn't aware of this problem. I've never had a problem with my Skunk. I looked at the release rack and there is no hole going through it.

Sorry for the confusion. On doing more research, it appears most of the complaints of clutch drag come from early 750 & 850 owners.

How does the 1000 clutch get it's oil feed? I know that the basket is of a larger size/design than the 850's but it's oil feed is obviously different too.
Also, basket rattle seems common with the 1000's but not so on the 850's!

49'er.. I don't wan't to get off topic, but where can I find more info on the clutch drag? My 750 is an early model & I've had continual problems with this and no amount of adjustment can solve it.

I don't know much about the clutch. I posed the question here:

I bought this and the head, jugs, and pistons from the same guy. This was all stuff that had been sitting on his shelf for a long time. The head, jugs, and pistons have never been installed. The clutch basket looks like it might be new too, but the fibers and plates look used. All this stuff came with a receipt for the porting, valve job, and boring from 2002.

It fits right in, but I don't know much else about it.

Pm me. I'll give you a fix. You'll need to do some machining though!

                    Bruce-

I called Jake and he doesn't have any more of the Falicon cam sprockets or a camchain tensioner for the 2v 1000 motor. I do see that Falicon in Florida has the adjustable cam sprockets listed though for $54 for the set.

                    Hope this helps.

Last night I put the stator rotor on and forgot to check to see if that brass washer that's behind it was facing the right way. So today I had to buy a 16mm bolt and take it back off. Sure enough, it was on backwards. All fixed now.

I'll hopefully have time tomorrow night to get the pistons in.

I was originally going to go with the black motor and polished side covers. But I've decided to go with all black with chrome hardware. So I've got some side covers to get painted, too.

                          Bruce,

I didn't check with the company that did the work, but I'm now certain the forementioned pieces were powercoated and not chromed (as evidenced by the fact that one of the bolts they coated chipped) In hindsight, chromeish parts should be chromed and not powdercoated, but for certain pieces I can definitely see the value in a "chrome" powdercoat (like my rear calipr hanger). Let me know if you want more info, and I;d be happy to call them.

                          Best,

                          J

Thanks, JC! If you could find out what brand/color that powdercoating is, that would be great! It looks awesome!

Hmmmm..... I wonder how a frame would look in that color with the black engine?
