    1983 GS750E- Retro Rocket Build

(this project will mainly be progressive pictures, with some footnotes.)
    *Unless someone has specific questions*

First you start with a beat to death 1983 GS750E.

and a mid 90's GSXR motor- yes a Water Pumper.

And you wind up with this:

Cool project. How're you gonna mount the radiator? Also, what's the plan for the GS motor?

That's the easiest part believe it or not-

Making 2 standoffs / brackets, using the top 2 mounting holes/points for the stock GS oil cooler.
The Oil cooler mounts to the bottom of the 11's Rad.
I will then brace it off the front of the motor like the Hayabusa does.

The GS stuff is already spoken for, thanks for asking, if it falls through I will post here.

      Peace-
      Ron

i think you will need a new back tire. better yet might want to buy stock in a rubber company.

man I wished I could fix the Title of this thread somehow it says 1980 but I could swear I typed in 1983- must be getting old timers-

Anyways got the bike rewired and everything tucked away proper.
I found some of the other stuff I need liek a bracket I can make work for my Gauges.
I need to make a plate to mount my coils too, as the area they used to reside in now contains a filler neck.
Still need to fabricate a few brackets to stiffen the motor mounting.
I have several of different designs already, this is not my first time making a motor fit where it was not designed to go, so that is a good thing.

After some wire loom repair and modification/
            Tested everything out-
All blinkers horns, headlights warning lights and instrumentation are working.

For now I am sticking with the stock Headlight.
I was tossing around putting one of my spare 86 GSXR dual setups on it, but they appeared to Big and Buggy on the front end of the GS.

I know Leon installed the HID HI/LOW setup in his today, waiting to see how it looks in person to possibly go the same direction/
I like the HID on my Busa, and still have a spare one I may just install on this one.

I figure 2-3 wks and I will be test riding it.

Definetly keep us updated. What size motor is it your putting in there? And is it fuel injected? If so did you have to install a ECM?

I have always thought that would be a brilliant machine. I always imagined it with a oil cooled 750 motor. Looking forward to checking out the progress. you going to do u/d forks and radials?

Hey Busafied - can you tell me any details about that seat?

                    (I dig the project, BTW.)

The donor motor is a GSXR1100 Water Pumper-
Yes a WATER PUMPER in an oil cooled chassis ////

                      The horror!!!!!!!!! LMAO

My idea is to go with a Blow through setup eventually.
I have a new Garret T3 setting on the shelf waiting.

It is a Carb'd Motor, as Billy said ~

My idea was to sneak my GSXR1100 motor into it out of one of my 86 GSXR's, but/
This motor puts down 138 hp as is, so no work needed to make it perform at the level I was anticipating.

Yes I have "Most" of the needed items already, waiting on a few more bits n pieces before posting any more.

                      TY-
I have no idea, I know the seat is Dry rotted / weathered beyond salvage.
Every time I set my fat arse on it, the seams tear just abit more.

Are you planning on bracing the frame at all?

I personally am not worried about bracing the frame:
Until / Unless 1 of 2 things occur, and ONLY if there is a sign of frame flexing. IMHO & HO with the style of riding I will be doing, it will not be necessary.

But below would be factors contributing to the need of said bracing:

                          1) I start drag racing the thing (not happening)
                          2) I turbo charge it (most likely happening)

I am honestly worried more about fitting wider rubber to use the new found power completely..

Then when / if the time comes I can transfer all the power to the ground abruptly I will address the possible issue.
I refuse to cry wolf till I personally see the need too.

If you like spirited peg/knee dragging cornering you might want to consider it, especially if you go with a modern suspension with radial tires. The newer USD forks and braced swingarms are much stiffer than their GS counterparts so there's more twisting energy being delivered to the frame.

I braced my subframe along with the newer running gear and it's made the bike a lot more fun to ride aggressively in the twisties - nice and rigid chassis feeling, compared to the hinged-in-the-middle feeling I used to have with the stock suspension and unbraced frame.

Can't link to this page directly, so www.oldskoolsuzuki.info -> GSX/EFE/Katana -> Making the GSX frame stiffer

Obviously I'm not Busafied although I know him pretty good. Anyway the seat appears to be a stock seat from an '83 GS750e/es. I too really like Ron's project and am waiting to see the finished project.
