    Tell me about smoothbores please

I found a set of VM33-A4 carbs on Craigslist a while back. They were nearly new and very cheap so I picked them up even though I don't have anything to put them on.

Looking at Sudcos site, they seem to be for an 1100GS. The guy I bought them from said they came off his friends Suzuki drag bike so I'm guessing it was one of those.
I've kept them on a shelf in my living room as a decoration and to annoy my fiancee, but now that I've entered the world of Suzuki I would like the find a nice GS1100ES to go with my 700ES.

Would these be worth installing or are they strictly a race carb?

Pros and Cons of these carbs? Are they worth much? I looked on ebay but didn't see any like them.

All the VM smoothbores are valuable. I just saw a set of 29s on Ebay that hadn't hit the reserve at $585.

That being said, I believe 33s are for a modified motor, Stage 2 or 3 build (Cams, header, etc)
    1978 GS 1000 (since new)
1979 GS 1000 (The Fridge, superbike replica project)
    1978 GS 1000 (parts)
    1981 GS 850 (anyone want a project?)
    1981 GPZ 550 (backroad screamer)
    1970 450 Mk IIID (THUMP!)
    2007 DRz 400S
    1999 ATK 490ES

They really suck. Worthless, and impossible to tune.
Send them to me, I will dispose of them free of charge.

        29mm bring retarded money.
33mm are not even in the same park as far as price.
        where's ray?
        he's a 33mm guy.
he can tell you all about them.
i myself like the rs series with the pumps..killer carbs and easy to tune and make good smooth horsepower.
you can put 33's on a stock 110016v.
the sets ive had worked very well as far as making horepower.

Keep hold of them for a while... I have a nice set of 29's I just rebuilt and run great on my bike... I might want to trade if my 29's can't feed the motor I am building

Not to thread jack but what is the realistic value of a set of VM29's? Got a set with my POS 1000S and was thinking about ditching them to help finance the restoration.

Just to confirm, these are the carbs...

those look like 29's, I'll rebuild a set of 26's for you and throw a few bucks your way if you want to trade those 29's.

33's would be to big for your bike unless it is super suped up.

best bet is to sell them or trade. if you are not worried about useing period parts then flat sides would be your best carb for your bike.

he was asking if the 33's would work on a gs1100es.
                    if that is correct...
the 33's will work fine on a piped stock motored 110016v.

                      This is what I meant.
I would like to find a clean 1100 and maybe do carbs, a period exhaust maybe Hagon shocks. Nothing that couldn't be removed in an afternoon to be put back to stock.

                        Hi Mr. exhondaguy,

Here's a carb manual for you, in PDF format:

                        Mikuni VM/Smooth Bore Manual

It's for '78-'89 Mikuni RS, VM, smoothbores, etc, carbs.

                        Thank you for your indulgence,

I had seen them over $400 on ebay. I'll tell you what I have in mine though. From a local guy, I paid $100 knowing they were going to need plenty of work. After replacing EVERYTHING except the slides, I had another $240 payment to Z1. I replaced everything, though. gaskets, brass floats, jet needle, needle jets, air jets.. etc...

That might give you a guide...

Yes, I was too lazy to sit there with a Dremel polishing them like I intended, so I thought painting the body black might flow with the paint scheme on the motor. You can't tell real well from the pic, but the engine is silver everywhere except the fins, so I thought matching the carbs up would look better than just grey.

I used the same Harley Davidson engine paint I used on the block. It doesn't hold up to gas as well as I hoped, but they don't leak so it doesn't matter.
