    VM29 Smoothbore Part Sources?

Cleaning out my carbs and need the thin gaskets that fits between the carb body and the inner Jet Block - item #88 below.

Sudco does not list a price for this gasket.

EDIT: found the gaskets at Motorcyclecarbs.com but they want $10 each. http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/VM29_...P10877C829.cfm

Does anyone know of a suitable gasket material that will work so I can cut out my own gaskets? The stock gaskets are very thin, only a few thousands thick.

    Thanks in advance.

I got mine at Sudco. I think they were about 3 bucks each? I can look when I get home. I think they could be made. I'll look closer at them and I can also send you a pic. I'll be home late this afternoon.

Went back to Sudco and found the gaskets. Guess I'll just order some. I like the idea of making my own but no disrespect to the suggestions given, I'd be concern about the paper crumbling. Maybe some tinfoil gaskets? At any rate, thanks to everyone that chimed in.

Here's a pic of the stock gaskets from Sudco:

I can't tell if they are made from something special. They just seem like paper! But who knows.. I guess it's always safe to use the real stuff.

Does anyone out there have a need for O-rings for VM29/33 carbs? I’m contemplating ordering bulk O-rings from McMaster-Carr for the drain plugs, pilot air screws, and fuel joints. The O-rings come in packs of 100 so obviously, there is going to be extras.

The 29's don't have pilot screws. The fuel joint orings are included in the kits from www.cycleorings.com . Not sure about the drain plug orings, but maybe he has those, too? Maybe he can put a kit together?

Oh you mean the pilot air screws. Sorry. I still think we could get kits from cycle orings probably cheaper

The O-rings in Robert Barr?s (cycleorings.com) VM kit has the Pilot Air Screw O-rings, but those are the only O-rings that fit the VM29/33?s. The fuel tube O-rings are larger on the VM29/33 carbs and the Drain Plug O-rings are completely different.

BTW, not looking to start a business ? just offset my purchase price and share some GSR brotherhood. I went ahead and ordered the O-rings today, going to pick them up at Will Call today.

You should put a post in the parts for sale section.

BTW, I might as well get two sets from you. Can't hurt to have a spare set.

Picked up the O-rings at lunch time (I love McMaster-Carr).

All the O-rings seem to fit perfectly; slight stretch fit to install in the groove and the Fuel tubes with O-rings installed fit nicely into the carb bodies as well.

One question for those with VM29’s: is the O-ring on the Drain Plug glued in place or are they just stuck to the metal on my particular set of carbs?

Regarding the Jet Block gaskets, decided to just cut my own from some fancy paper. Found some .006” thick velum paper used for fancy business cards. Going to soak the paper in gasoline for a couple of days and see how it holds up. Fingers crossed.

Good suggestion to put the O-rings in the For Sale forum. I did that before with some 550 intake O-rings (Robert Barr does not sell that size). Still have a bunch of those left so maybe I'll expand my offerings so to speak. Have a bunch of O-rings for Kawasaki carbs also.

Ed, if you're referring to the orings on the drain plugs I just put some grease on the orings to hold them in place in the nuts. I've NEVER had to glue an oring. Ray.
