Z1 guys will spend any kind of money to restore their bikes. There is nothing that will stand in the way of a Z1 guy and his original restoration project, especially money. Some guys have $10,000 or more tied up in their Z1s, and they aren't even finished yet.

        They're nuts.

I think if a fellow who had access to the tools and materials made a run of 500 true to the original Z1 exhaust systems (including stamping the original marks on them), he'd have no problem selling every one of them for $2,000 each or more.

Gee, this is reminiscent of the roundcase Ducati crowd. The Borrani rims for the 750SS bring over $3000 each. There are people restamping later $100 rims and claiming them to be early production to try and get the big money.

Reminds me of the car guys - restamping numbers on the engine blocks.

About 10 years ago I had an all original '68 ElCamino with L78 engine package (rectangular port heads, M21 trans, 12 bolt posi rear end, etc). Saw an ad in Hemming's about some guy selling numbers matching engine blocks. Called him and he told me they stamp engine blocks with chassis numbers all the time. Needless to say it really ****ed me off that people are doing this when it devalues my car that was truly original.
