Leading axle mod....?
On the bikes for sale thread there's a GS1000 chain drive (E model I guess) for sale through CL. One of our GSr's noted that the photos showed the bike with leading axle forks installed. For argument's sake, assuming this is a replacement due to an accident, and assuming there are is no steering head damage, how would the ride and handling characteristics of such a bike differ from the stock setup?

it would be similar, it will be just a touch longer in the wheel base if they used the under the fork axle triple tree. if they used the forward axle triple tree it should be the same wheel base as a gs1000. the forward axle forks are ok especally if you don't plan on racing, otherwise look for under the fork axle forks.78 GS1000 Yosh replica racer project, 82 Kat 1000, 10 990 ADV-R, Some dirt bikes -

Leading axle fork decreases trail which will speed up the steering from a theoretical perspective. In reality, not sure you would notice.Last edited by Nessism; 12-23-2008, 08:34 AM.Ed
