This is no big deal, I assure you. Wind coming off a big rig, with or without windshield -- no perceptible difference.

If you are coasting along a two lane road with a tailwind, and go past an opposite direction truck at high speed pushing a huge bow wave into a headwind, it can be a very big deal. With a fairing it will wake you up, without one it can take you clean off the seat, pull the bars out of your hands.

Maybe the trucks back east don't go that fast, but out west they let them rip sometimes.
If you get a good grip and lean down into it it's no big deal, but if you daydream and hit it sitting upright and relaxed the impact is severe.

I have bikes with and without, prefer naked except for cold weather, long distance, or both.

Windjammers are too big, you end up doing a push-up all day long against the air pressure coming at you from behind. Probably a vented windshield like a modern fairing would work well.

I really couldn't tell you. It has no markings and is a universal fit. I got it from a friend and decided I have no use for it. It needs a new home. Can you hear it calling?

Hmmm... I've done thousands of miles with my Windjammer and have NEVER had any issues with backpressure, regardless of how fast or slow I've travelled (and I tend toward the former). Wind buffeting from high speed trucks going the other way have also been easier with the fairing on the bike than when those same forces were acting directly against my body.

The ONLY thing I don't like about the Windjammer is using it when it's excessively hot out, and even then it's only an issue at very slow speeds.

I purchased two windjammers from a guy, one looked lik this one and the other one looks like what I have seen on hondas, more rounded. I was wandering if it matters which one I put on if I can figure out how to mount it. I got one mount with them but it seems to be a little bit tight with the highway bars. I am wondering about the wireing being a problem, or really hard to do? I got a windshield but it only takes a couple minutes to get it off. I noticed someone wrote that L's don't look good with windjammers?

I was the one that wrote something to that effect. It's not that they can't look good ... it's just that the lines of an "L" bike don't generally lend themselves to the style a fairing and bags adds.

My 81 with a Pichler frame mount fairing.Handles well at higher speeds.

I would like to thank everyone for their insight into my windshield or fairing dilemma. Due to everyone's comments I have decided to go with a National Cycle windshield.

I am debating between the 'deflector' (smaller) or the street shield (larger). I like the looks of the deflector but am concerned about the amount of protection it will provide and therefor have been kicking the idea around about the street shield.

Anyone have any insight about the particular shield? Anyinsight will be greatly apprecited.

The Deflector provides decent, though not complete coverage. At your height, esp. if mounted on the stock, slightly up swept bars, it should be adequate. If you are after more complete coverage, and don't mind looking through the shield, the Street line will be better. Click on the 'search' tab, and enter 'National Cycle' for a lot of great info, before making your choice.
