Choke Question!

I don't have the manual to the used bike that I bought a week ago so I have a question.

On a 1982 GS 650 L, what do the R and S stand for on the choke lever and which way should that lever be when attempting to start the bike? I assume the S is for start.

Much different bike then what I trained on in my class.

In what position is the choke leverwhen they are on these marks? I would think full choke to start, than half choke when its running until warmed up.
