Twinpot Brake upgrade on 78 Skunk

    I think it will work. If the 550sm has the smaller 264mm? ( from memory) rotors rather than 295mm rotors then it should do....

    The 650g fork legs work in the 550 triples as well.

    If I remember correctly I have one set of the original aluminum brackets left (used) only now...

    I guess I can have more made if there's demand.

      Thanks. I found a set of 82 550M forks, and was able to get the rotors and calipers with it. Everything should bolt up. I will see how that works, first. The calipers wont be as good as the twin pots, but they should be a lot better than the single disk.

        Hey Salt, do you still have any of these kits? I have a GS750B and think I am going to need a bit more than a single rotor single pot to stop me.

        Postage to Aus will be the killer in the price I guess. Cheers, Brodie.

          You'll have to change your fork legs for it to work... Postage to Oz is not so bad. $40 or so from memory.
          I only have 1 set left, it's used & Aluminium not the later steel sets.
          Trying to gauge demand to see if I should get more cut...

            Hmm, I know I will need a new right fork leg, thought the other would be ok.
            I don't mind that is is used, but what would be the advantage of the steel. Wouldn't the aluminium hold up just as well?

              If you want to do two brakes you need two legs... otherwise one will do as long as it's the same length, travel, spring rate etc.

              The benefits to the steel ones were: Price, Being able to use the stock bolts & price....

              These came off one of my own bikes so I know the history of them.

              Guessing M10 Fine thread bolts should be easier to find out there than here...

                Price is always the killer for my bikes. Well list me down for the next batch, I have a long ways to go with the bike yet. If none have been made by the time I get around to the brakes I might just have to grab that set off you, if they are still there of course.

                  Yes, it basically cut the price to less than half when you took the bolts etc into account.

                    Im sure it's been asked but what would i need to do to get this on my '79 GS750. I have the "base" model with wire wheels and single piston/single disc front setup. Would I be able to upgrade to just ONE CBR rotor/multi-piston setup? Thanks SO much!

                        To use this design of bracket you'd need to change your fork legs....

                            You can probably run a 310mm rotor & single disc fork leg, but the pads will be slightly angled across the swept area with the bracket intended for 296's on dual disc forks. The pads on these calipers are not as tall as the honda rotor braking surface anyways, so not too big of a deal, & it could work out great for you.

                              So the bracket WILL fit, it just may be angled a bit awry? If that's the case, I imagine it'd still be a much better setup than my spongy OEM setup.

                                1979 GS750 E (But I think I have differenet forks than the stock GS750 becasue all the 79 calipers I orderd didnt fit!!!)
