I'm probably going to do an emergency overhaul on my own engine, by the way. It's for 60,000 on it, and is gushing oil from somewhere near the bottom. Does anybody have a tutorial for that?

Doc Brown in Portland, OR only uses Castrol Actevo. And he is quite possibly the baddest assed mechanic I have ever met.

Well, I dont know a lot about the 2 valve engines, but I can say that I put bigger cams im my bike and I miss the low end grunt. The top end is great if you go fast all the time. Most of the time it is stoplight to stoplight and torque rules there. I would recommend degreeing what ever cams you put in to make sure they are in right, and you can tweak the centers to tune the powerband.Comment

Not so much better but different, and not made in as large of 'batches' because less is sold. Plus, the market dictates by way of what people WILL spend on it. I'm running Rotella T. East bound and down,10-4 mofos! lolComment

Just go to BassCliff's site and download a manual - it's pretty easy to pull the top end
Expect to replace gaskets and cam chain guides front and rear, If you've got good compression, you don't need more than a hone and fresh rings on the mechanical side. You're probably suffering from 30 year old O ring syndrome. They do break down, after all
You know Dr. Brown? I need to go by and Harass that old goat. I wonder if he still has that RGV 500 Suzuki GP bike he tried to run at Languna back in the 90s?1978 GS 1000 (since new)

If you are using stock type cams there is no need to use HD valve springs. Better off with stock springs.Comment
