The guy on the ZX-14 should be in the low to mid nines stock. You looked more experienced than he did.Comment

Well, Mike is a good friend of mine, and is 100 pounds heavier than me (I weigh about 150). He's certainly been doing this a lot longer than me, and got me into this. Heck, he was the one that bought the GS out of the field and did the initial work on it before selling it to me
His best time so far has been a 10.09 I think. We have another friend who has a lime green ZX-14 that is my weight, who on the same day and track pulled off a 9.84.
Also, bear in mind this is at about 4000 ft elevation, so...
Thanks for the compliment, I've been working at it a lot. The nice thing about Wendover is that they are kind of the 'outlaw' drag strip, no tech inspections, just... if you have $10, you can run it, whatever it is. It's 120 miles from where I live, but most people are gone by 3pm, and he runs it until 6, so you end up at a point where you can just hot lap and go again. I probably get 30-40 runs every time I go out there, and man, that helps your launch a lot.Last edited by Guest; 11-11-2009, 01:12 AM.Comment

Looking good! The paint on mine is actually a Chrysler color, Electric Blue Pearl Metallic, which came on some PT Cruisers of all things. The paint shop had a paint chip catalog, and I just liked the color for some reason. Plus, the paint guy kept telling me that plain paint is boring, haha.
If you end up needing anything from the stock front end, let me know, I'm going to go with the front of a GSXR-750 or so this winter and will have the stock parts left over.Comment

Took the engine out again today to get it torn down. I plan on taking the crank out to get it welded, possibly putting in the 750 oil pump gear, looking wistfully at a billet clutch basket, and possibly putting in some hotter cams.
Other than some pretty good carbon build up, the cylinders looked pretty good.
I did find one minor issue, looks like one of the oil pump bolts has backed out, eep!
Onward and upward... I'll probably get the cases split tonight and get a better look at the goodies.
Anyone have any suggestions for things I need to do in here while I have it apart? I've been reading other folk's thread in regards to this, and outside of the oil pump gear and checking the gear shift dogs, it sounds like there is not a lot to be doneComment

Disassemble the oil pump & see if it has any scoring on the impeller or the case where the impeller spins. If there is any it will lower the oil pressure on a pump system that ony make 3-7 psi normally, with all GOOD parts. Call me at 714-356-7845 if I can help you or answer questions. Ray.Comment

I'll certainly inspect the oil pump, thanks.
Anyone have a source for cheap standard piston rings? I seem to be able to find .5 over for cheap, but standards are $25 a piston, according to partshark. I was aiming for $40 all in
