4 into 2 vs 4 into 1

I've got a 79 gs1000, and a buddy has an 82 gs1100.... I've got a 4 into 2 that looks like the factory head pipes with slip on mufflers. He's got a 4 into 1, we don't know what brand it is, but we know it was on a gs1000 before it was on his bike. I like the look and sound of his exhaust better than mine, and he's willing to trade. Am I helping or hurting my performance by going to his exhaust???

4-1 is more efficient...however you may have to do some minor carb work or rejetting to run the proper fuel mixture. it might run lean with the 4-1 exhaust.

Please also note that some 4 into one exhausts are designed for looks and sound only and may have no effect on your performsnce or fuel mixture.

If you like the looks and sound, go for it and then read your plugs after a bit of riding. If the color is off then you will know what to do.
