Frame change! - Trans replacement! - Fork rebuild!

Well I started something I've been putting off for a bit...
I finally found a decent '83 frame end of last summer...(Thanks Russell!)
And, I picked up a decent used trans last summer...(Mine pops out of 2nd)
Plus, I've had progressive springs and new seals waiting for a year...(seals started leaking bad at Fennimore last fall)

    So...let us begin...

Last Sunday, the 31st, I started here:
(That is the new frame in the picture)

Took my time...took some pics...made some notes and got to here:

    So far so good....

    Got back to it yesterday...

I removed the clutch w/basket, starter and other parts to lighten the engine removal...

By early afternoon, the old frame was stripped down.
(You can see the new one in the back)
Note the kickstand location on the old frame...that is one thing I will miss...

    Parts all over the garage...
(The weld job on the old frame is clearly visible in this pic...that's part of the reason I want to change it)

Today I hope to start prepping the new frame...

        Baatfam,

I'm just a little ahead of you with the 83 frame upgrade. But you will probably catch me soon if your not doing any engine work.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Shoot you're lucky to have a garage to swap motors.

              Good luck with your project.
Luck had nothing to do with it. Hard work and determination to get away from the ice and cold. It was a choice not luck.

A good bearing shop should be able to fix you up locally.

Pretty sure the ones I have coming from Z1 are All Balls....

Knocked the old races from the steering head yesterday...
Took out the swing arm bearings also, one of them was feeling notchy...ordered new ones...

And I started boltin' up some bits last night to the frame...

During the week I hope to get the forks rebuilt, so I can put the front end together when the new bearings arrive...
