5" rear wheel

Just thought I would share.

1981 and 1978 Suzuki GS750E (I test-fit it on my '79 swingarm)

YZF600R 17X5 wheel is 90% bolt on.

You need:

20mm GS750 rear axle
17X5 YZF600R rear wheel
YZF600R spacers
YZF600R caliper hanger
YZF600R caliper
YZF600R sprocket carrier

For the 1981 GS750E you need to have a 16/38 sprocket combo and I prefer a 520 setup for more tire clearance. I'm also running a 160mm tire.

I didn't get exact measurements yet...I'll be tearing the whole thing down to measure the goods later this week. You will have to cut the spacers down to fit the width of the swingarm. I'm also going to be experimenting with a number of other, lower profile sprocket carriers.

Biggest reason why this is pretty slick is because FZR600 and YZF600R front ends slap right in the steering stem. I'm running a FZR600 front end and wanted the YZF rear wheel to match.

how do you get the sprockets aligned with such a wide rear wheel?

Offset front sprocket. I'm still researching that part...there's lots of info about that here, though.

Is the front end direct swap? I vaguely remember you needing to install a shim or spacer of some sort. Curious cause I'm still thinking of doing this swap myself if I ever get to it. Thanks.

Yeah you need a 5mm shim under the lower bearing. Other than that it's a straight fit.

I wanted to add that there were some clearance issues with the sprocket carrier and the caliper carriers. To pull it off in the stock swingarm you need to shave quite a bit off the caliper hanger or fabricate your own.

I ended up just widening my swingarm by an inch.

How's the length on the front end compared to the length of stock forks?

They are a bit shorter than my stock forks...I think an inch and a half shorter than my stock 1981 GS750E forks, but about an inch longer than my 1979 GS750E Showa forks.

I'll try to break out a tape measure and get good measurements to post under our suspension section

#1...some people are restricted to availability. I do not have a Katana or GSXR laying around, however I have an abundance of FZR/YZF parts.

#2...some people want to save money. While some people can find complete Katana and GSXR front ends for about the same money, in general the whole setup will run close to $200...and that's for generic, old Kat stuff. If you want a low miles newer setup you'll spend close to $400 for EVERYTHING to bolt up. FZR600's are so generic you can get complete front ends for $100...I can find three right now.

#3...Yamaha made my forks and wheels like Ferrari made yours.
