    GS1085: RS 34 Flatside vs VM33 Smoothbore?

Which of these two carbs are the better choice for GS's? I have been looking for a set of RS 34 Flatslides's but a set of VM 33's S/Bores fell into my lap. I have heard the VM 33's don't carbureate as well on street bikes as the VM29's. So, what's your experience with these two Carbs . . . should I keep looking for the RS 34's?

General oppion is 29's are better for the street, the 33's will be almost just as good but the flatslides have a more abrupt delivery over the round slides. Had 33's for mine but a "mate' sold them on me for his habit so running 29's now. Would be using the 33's if i had them. Buts thats just me.

Happen to recall your VM33 baseline setting/jetting?

i like the RS carbs because of the accelerator pump and the cool clicky clicky sounds they make.

If you buy the vm33, check if the throttle slide are kawasaki or suzuki.
i have spec of the base jetting here, i will check that today.
Like blowerbike said you can beat the sound of the rs at idle.

I already have a set of VM33's which came off a GS1000 drag bike. Just started opening them up today: the mains are #130, 1.5 Slides has a push pull throttle set up. Need a thorugh inspection, cleaning & new screws.

I didn't know about the RS clickety sound. Please explain further

the flat slides pulse back and forth against the carb body's and make a clicking sound at idle..
very coooool as long as a person doesn't think there valves need adjusted or somethings wrong with the engine.

Either one could be bolted up to a STOCK 16 valve 1100/1150 motor& run great but if you are putting them on an 8 valver, it BETTER have some work done to it! Ray.

Was going to mention that "rattle" about those flatslides. Not a big fan of noisy extras unless its a dry clutch setup. But thats very very rare on a suzuki.

SR, Perhaps we could get together sometime, I'm in Boulder, & have a 81 GS1100E ( wisco 1168 10.25-1,webcam WSG338 cams,( flowed by Tom Wirth of Mountain Machine.) Yosh (race 4-1) & misc. I have run,29 smoothbores,33 smoothbores, & now running a set of 750 GSXR slingshots ( I believe they are 36mm). and am VERY happy with them. performance is seamless & seemingly un affected by changes in altitude/temp. spirited riding on Peak to Peak renders @ 50mpg avg Corrected Dynojet readings are 133 HP w/110 lbs torque. If intrested, PM me. & maybe we can swap bikes for a couple miles.. G

110ft/lb or 110Nm? 110ft/lb seems like an awfully high torque figure. Not saying it'd be a bad thing to have though, hahaha.

1.5 is the kawi slide, the suzuki slide is 2.0.
both run.Almost all vm33 we see for sale listed gs1000 came off KZ.

I see, I found the VM33 recommended jetting at the bottom of this page

Tried pasting the chart but lost all the formatting.

I am not sure if the VM33 1.5 Slides will work in Denver. My previous experience was I had to swap out the 1.5's in my VM29 with 2.0 slides to make them work at altitude. A 2.0 Slide allows more air flow so I am thinking the 1.5 will make it stumble, cough or something. Yet the guy I bought them from had them installed on a GS1000 dragbike, He didn't strike me as too mechanically inclined. You can ask Tkent02.

I am interested in any comments/experience from anyone running VM33's with 1.5 slides in the GS1085. Trippivot?
