My new bike has a cooler, and I don't know if I should fill the oil as I usually do or do I need to compensate for the added volume of the cooler and hoses?

I'd add more oil since the sump level will be lower with the added volume. You also might want to install some 750 oil pump gears since the cooler plumbing will add pumping losses into the oiling system and the 750 gears spin the oil pump faster than your stock gears.Ed

Some people mount the coolers upside down so that the oil fill marks still reflect the proper oil level even with the extra capacity of the cooler.
Alternatively I have found that the oil cooler when mounted with drain lines at the bottom does drain but rather slowly. So when I check my oil I start teh engine, shut it off and let it settle about 15 sec and use that. If you leave it longer then it will look overfilled as teh cooler continues to drain.

I run about 1/4 quart more oil to compensate for the oil lines. I also run my oil cooler with the hoses on top, to prevent starving the system while the oil cooler fills up.Comment
