When I tested to actuall "flow" I observed the oil flowing at I would guess 1-2 quart per min ? It definately wasn't "high volume" flow. My oil cooler lines were 3/8" hose.Comment

Mods not withstanding, this is what Suzuki designed and what I did:
First, the two large bolts on either side of the filter cover are plugs. Remove them and connect your oil lines. When the left passage is restricted correctly you will have exactly what the engineers designed.
I did the restriction with a 1150 cover, but a rubber plug would be just as good. And it lowered my temps by 100 degrees or so when riding hard.Comment

i never understand why people try reinvent the wheel with this whole cooler thing. all the elevens were designed with coolers in mind .they built everything in for you ...you just had to hook it up. easy.....so what do folks do ...they go through all the hassle of fancy oil covers with crazy take offs and all the time the answer was under their noses....
anyway...look here

It's the way it's connected on my 85 750 so it's pretty obvious to me.But what do I know I ride a 750

I agree. One way is correct according to Suzuki engineers - using the built-in valleys and tapped holes. I just purchased OEM banjo bolts and crush washers, made my own stainless steel lines, and I was GTG.i never understand why people try reinvent the wheel with this whole cooler thing. all the elevens were designed with coolers in mind .they built everything in for you ...you just had to hook it up. easy.....so what do folks do ...they go through all the hassle of fancy oil covers with crazy take offs and all the time the answer was under their noses....

The other way is to jury rig it and make changing the oil a PITA, plus it looks cludged. Your call. I decided to go with the Suzuki engineers' plan. But what do I know?
And thanks for showing the 1150 restricted oil cover vs. the 1100 open oil cover. I could not find the pics when I searched.Comment

You make it sound like a modded 1150 cover with a couple npt taps took an act of genius and a weeks worth of intense labor? My mod was simple, quick and effective so why all your sarcastic "reinventing the wheel" bs ?i never understand why people try reinvent the wheel with this whole cooler thing. all the elevens were designed with coolers in mind .they built everything in for you ...you just had to hook it up. easy.....so what do folks do ...they go through all the hassle of fancy oil covers with crazy take offs and all the time the answer was under their noses....

Actually they are to the left and right of the cover, near the bottom, but I agree, why? It is already built into the engine cases. And the OEM banjo bolts and crush washers are still available, so you can connect to any oil cooler (and any lines) that suits your fancy.
I have seen a pristine 1100E with the cover mod. I was stunned. It may work, but why???Comment

The 1150 cover is modded from the 1100 cover. Why are you attempting to bypass the OEM design of using built-in oil valleys and oil routing? The 1150 cover allows the stock 1100E routing to work as designed. I am using a stock 1150 cover, my own SS lines (the ones sold me leaked like a sieve so I was forced to make my own) and a factory 1150 cooler. Following this factory design, any cooler could be made to function correctly if the correct lines were fashioned.
I suggest you are attempting to reinvent the wheel, and I can't understand why.Comment

Because at the time I did the mod there was no conclusive info if there were banjo to hose fitting adaptors available that would properly work using the galley plugs. Cripes, what a riot having to listen to all the keyboard garage mechanics BS critisizm for taking the initive to do a functional mod "slightly different"
