Throttle problem

Not sure if this is the right topic for this forum, but I'm having a few problems with the throttle on my bike ('80 gsx750).

I just replaced the cable and am not entirely sure which of the two slots on the grip the bead slides into (see picture above). No matter which of the slots I put the bead into it, the throttle doesnt spring back the way it should. I'm not sure if I put the throttle into the casing the right way, or if I just need to lube the cable in the housing or both, or more?

If anyone has tips on how to replace the cable and reassembly of the throttle casings to the grip, could use those.

Also the casing that has the start/kill switch and clamps onto the throttle does not fit snugly on the bar when the screws are completely tightened down. Any easy fixes for this problem, shim, tape?

The cable should slide back and forth without greasing it.
(although it's highly recommended to grease it anyways)

I think the reason the throttle sleeve has Two holes, is because some GS bikes have 2 cables instead of One.

My gs650 only has one cable, and the cable is sitting in the hole Farthest away....so that would be the First hole if you were sitting on the bike.

If you hook everything up, and the throttle isn't returning fast enough, there must be an issue with the Carb spring or something in that area. The cable only pulls, and completely relies on the tension from the carb spring to Pull it back.

This is a very easy install, really no way to screw it up....something must not be functioning correctly?

Your pix shows it in the wrong hole. It should be in the closest hole to where it enters the control The older VM carbs had a push / pull two cable setup

There's only one cable. There's nowhere on the carbs for another cable to attach, same with the plastic casing.

Which way does the white plastic part of the throttle sit when you attach it to the casing?

I know this is a simple repair, but wondering why it's not smooth and retracting properly.

When I am routing a new throttle cable, I do it in stages. First I connect it to the carbs and make sure it pulls and returns smoothly. Then I route it up to the bars but don't connect to anything and test again. Then I put it in the handlebar casing and pull again. If all goes well I will then assemble and test once more. The unit should tighten down snugly and not leave much of a space at all.
I always lube my cables before a fresh install and then periodically after that.
