If you're talking about modern bikes yes, they are running pressurized airboxes fed by snorkels in the fairings. Vintage race bikes would have been running stacks.

You can see them in photographs taken when those bikes were the ultimate.

You can bet they had a full team of techs and engineers, spending many man hours and money tuning those bikes for each race, just as they do now.

No doubt, numerous things have to be taken into account for each track.

I think most people running K&Ns are aware they are giving up a little where filtration is concerned. What you gain in flow more than makes up for it. Tuning's not a problem if you buy a proper jet kit instead of trying to DIY.
